Diatomaceous Earth Slug Control
Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder that is commonly suggested as a method of slug control. It is made up of the sharp, jagged remains of tiny sea creatures and it works by lacerating the soft bodies of slugs as they crawl over it, causing them to dehydrate and die.
The effectiveness of using diamataceous earth for slug control is questionable, especially if not used properly or if used in the wrong environment. Diamataceous earth is not very effective if it gets wet, so it is essential to keep it dry!
Diatomaceous earth can also be harmful to the touch and very irritating if it comes in contact with your eyes, nose, or lungs. If you use diatomaceous earth slug control strategies, wear rubber gloves and sprinkle it around your garden with care.
One of the main disadvantages of using diatomaceous earth is that it is a very time-consuming and costly strategy for slug control. It usually isn’t a very effective strategy because you will need to constatly re-apply it and hope for the best!
And lastly, although commonly suggested as a slug control strategy, diatomaceous earth will not resolve the problem of why you have slugs in the first place!
